What Is Mastering?
In the production of a record, mastering is the last creative stage. To make the leap from what you hear in your head to something someone would want to buy. This process is to benefit from fresh ears and a expert reference. It is your last chance to balance sonic elements of your mix that you may not have heard before and optimize playback across all systems.
Can't I do this myself?
Its like trying to cut your own hair. Sure you can have a go, but it's almost certain you will get a better result from a professional. Unlike a plug-in, a mastering engineer will LISTEN to your track and diagnose the best route of action to take.
What do i send you?
For your tracks export/bounce as a WAV or AIFF file at 24 bit, and their original sample rate. No MP3’s or AAC’s.
Leave off the loudness processors, as these will “limit” and ensure there is some headroom on your final mixes. Buss compression is ok if its been a part of your mixing process. If you are unsure if this is essential to your mix sound then print two and we can decide for you.
Ensure there is some silence before the start of your track, and the tail rings out completely.
